1. What is a Domain Name?

A "Domain Name" is an "address" which enables computers to identify and locate other computers on the Internet. Domain Names provide a system of simple Internet addresses which translates the Domain Name into the Internet Protocol (IP) numeric addresses used by computers and networks on the Internet. There can only be one Domain Name of each hierarchical top level domain (TLDs). Hence, there can only be one "CorporationCentre.ca" Domain Name. For example, It is easier to remember www.CorporationCentre.ca than the IP address 204.35.98.250.

2. What are the valid characters for a Domain Name?

The only valid characters for a Domain Name are letters, numbers and a hyphen "-". Other characters like the underscore "_", an exclamation mark "!" or spaces are NOT valid.

3. What is the cost to register a Domain Name?

When you register your Domain Name there is an annual registration fee (plus applicable taxes) that is payable to the registration agent. This fee will vary depending on the TLD selected. Below is a table outlining the current annual registration fees:

When you register a Domain Name, a pre-authorization check is made on your credit card for the appropriate fee. Generally, the charge is applied to your card in the 24 hours following registration.

4. How long does it take for my Domain Name to become registered once I've entered it into the system?

The registration process does not usually take more than 24 hours from the submission of the online registration. You can confirm that the Domain Name has been registered by returning to our domains section and attempting to register it again. The registration information will be displayed only if the registration process was successful.

5. Once I have a Domain Name secured, how long may I use it?

If there are no trademark disputes, your secured Domain Name will be yours for as long as you maintain the annual registration fees.

6. How do I modify my Domain Name information that's contained on the Domain Name Server?

You can achieve this by going to the following web page http://manage.opensrs.net . Enter your user id and password and follow the instructions.

7. Can I host my web site with another company?

Yes. CorporationCentre.ca only provides registration services for Domain Names.
